Hi..Hi..back to the blog. This writing will be about IMALT (Instructional Media & Activities in Language Teaching.
1. Media
is the
plural form of medium, which (broadly speaking) describes any channel of
communication. This can include anything from printed paper to digital data,
and encompasses art, new, educational content and numerous other forms of
information. Digital media, which makes up an increasingly vast portion of modern communications, is
comprised of intricately encoded signals that are transmitted over various
forms of physical and virtual media, such as fiber optic cable and computer
networks.

2.
Roles of Media:
a. Informative Role: There
is a desire for the “informed citizen”, therefore it is the media’s duty to
inform the people of what is going on with our leaders, our government, the
social world, the economy, the environment, etc. so that we are capable of
making rational and accurate decisions.
b. Educative Role:
Citizens what to know the significance of events, how policies and
regulations will affect our lives, etc. The media should not just throw
the information at us, but assist us in understanding
and comprehending what it is that we are hearing/seeing.
c. Platform Role: The media
should serve as a platform to various groups in society; therefore, they must
be diversified , objective, unbiased, and allow voices to be heard from all
society as well as the government, our leaders and the corporate voice in the
“establishment”. It is the media’s duty to provide to the public an opportunity
to hear all sides of a story, not just what is included in ministerial. (i.r.
one government’s platform)
d. Publicity Role: Politicians,
leaders, celebrities, activists, intellects, etc. all use the media to
publicize themselves and their mandate, cause, goal, or duty. Through the
media, they can access the public on a widespread basis and draw attention to
themselves – for better, or worse.
e. Adversarial Role: Relating to
the government, the media functions as it adversary or a “watch dog” to ensure
that the government is being responsible, transparent, accountable, just, and
is acting in the public interest, free of fraud, illegality, or personal
benefit. The media evaluates the performance of the government and plays the
part of the “skeptic” when the government tells them information.
f.
Advocacy Rule: The media is a
marketplace of ideas, so they should hear, broadcast and promote different
viewpoints from different parties, whether it be social groups political
parties, religous organizations, etc. However the media has to be careful
when playing this role. Using politics as an example, they can either
publish views of many political parties and advocate them to the
public or they can persuade people to vote for a particular party. Clearly the
latter is much more subjective and bias than the first.
It is important that the media upholds and performs these 6 functions/roles because if they do not, then they will not be representing themselves properly and we will have a ‘democratic deficit’. https://thejottingjournal.wordpress.com/2010/10/01/6-roles-of-the-media
3. Method
a. Public
Relations
An often
uncharted territory for most clients, the evolution of great Public Relations
comes from understanding the border of what makes your company and products of
value to the media's audience and taking it to the edge. For Method Media's
clients, it's not just PR ... but CPR- Creative Public Relations that makes the
difference.
b. Advertising
Advertising
should create an emotional connection with conviction, creativity and
communication. Not just pretty pictures (although they can help!), we develop
creative advertising that positions our clients with a passionate edge:
targeted messages, indelible images, and a sales-motivating vision designed to
generate attention and action.
c. Collateral
Design
Collateral
design/sales tools are essential to driving your brand on a daily basis. Vital
tools that ultimately communicate in the field when you're sales team's not
around, they're often the inception of establishing relationships with your
audience.
d. Web Design
& Development
If the World
Wide Web is “live”, then why are so many websites lifeless? As an integral
interface with your audience, your web presence should exist at the edge of the
big picture: leveraging interactive tools that create real value as a resource
for your audience.
4. What are
technologies for learning?
Technology and instructions in EFL
Classrooms context
The application of technology
has considerably changed English teaching methods. It provides so many
alternatives as making teaching interesting and more productive in terms of
advancement (Patel, 2013). In traditional classrooms, teachers stand in front
of learners and give lecture, explanation, and instruction through using
blackboard or whiteboard. These method must be changed concerning the
development of technology. The usage of multimedia texts in classroom assists
learners in become familiar with vocabulary and language structures. The
application of multimedia also makes use of print texts, film, and internet to
enhance learners’ linguistic knowledge. The use of print, film, and internet
gives learners the chance to collect information and offers them different
materials for the analysis and interpretation of both language and contexts
(Arifah, 2014). http://ijreeonline.com/article-1-120-en.pdf
Technologies for learning:
Computer: Digitized speech
and video, offered by the use of computer, can also be highly effective for
developing this important language skill. Using a computer, with the internet,
also has plenty of benefits for developing listening. Such use can provide so
many authentic audio and video resources to listen and to develop the
associated language skills.
Social networking
sites like Skype, Nimbuzz, Yahoo, and Facebook, etc. allow kind of audio as well as video talk, in
addition to IM (instant messaging) service. This kind of online talk, with
native speakers of English, has been advocated, as a very useful tool for
improving speaking proficiency as well as pronunciation by the scholars like
Payne and Whitney (2002).

Using
podcasting in language education in both theory and practice provides many
advantages because it can help teachers enhance students’ English skills. In
this regard, Rosell-Aguilar (2007) remarks that podcasting can support
principles promoted by different theories of learning, such as the use of
authentic materials, informal and lifelong learning, the use of learning
objects and just-in-time teaching. Furthermore, students improve their pronunciation,
listening and speaking abilities and become more aware of cross-cultural
customs (Stanley, 2006; Lee, 2009, Powel, 2006). Another technological tool
that can be used in the EFL classroom is Padlet, which can help teachers
provoke students to eager participation with authentic, stimulating, and
motivating content (Baida, 2014).
